The Seven

An interesting presentation was given by Mr George Robson at the latest meeting of the Cullercoats Men’s Club entitled “The Severn” which discussed the drama of The Great Reform Bill 1832.

Slavery and its eventual banning was laid out in sequence of how it started and completed which was to have great effect on world trade.

Notable people of the time Charles Earl Grey were mentioned for his efforts towards his constant championship of civil and religious liberty, also mentioned the formation of the Peelers (the Police force of that time) and the operation of the workhouses.

The route of the slave trade was mapped and the number of countries that were involved in its processes. William 1V also came into the talk and George finished with a quote referring to King William "Hitherto the King has been indefatable in his efforts to make himself popular and do good natured and amiable things in every possible instance. the man at least wishes to make everyone happy and everything he has done has been benevolent".
